Please take note that all of the following classes make use of both indoor and outdoor environments, thus encouraging each dog to develop positive behaviors in either setting. The outdoors also allows us work on impulse control under higher levels of distraction. As refinement takes place in the adult dog, he/she will work off-leash in various locations around the area.
Dogs of all ages can take part in Adventure Walk Classes that are fun for both owner and pet.
Primary Elements School ("Molding the Beginners") |
For Puppies 8-12 weeks old as well as dogs of any age which have not been trained in the basics. Call the Centre (250 862-3849) to sign up for 4 sessions. A puppy must be away from the breeder and in the current owner’s home for at least 10 days before entering the class. This covers the incubation period for parvo, a common puppy disease.
PLEASE READ! Puppies must have one set of shots from a veterinary, be on a medication such as Revolution, a lice and fleas preventative program, and be on a de-worming program. The vet needs to include a health certification note: "Healthy Puppy" will suffice. This, and a record of shots, etc. must be brought to the first Primary Elements class.
In our off-leash Primary Elements classes , we focus on unstructured manners and obedience. Our priorities are teaching bite inhibition (applies mainly to puppies), encouraging socialization (with children, men, strangers, and other dogs), and introducing basic manners ( "sit", "off", "stay", "stand", and "come").

Our Middle School class is an advanced course unique to Dogzies training program. It is offered as a specialty for owners who want to go the distance with their dogs! The focus is on sharpening your communication skills and your dog’s responses as he makes the transition from average to exceptional, regarding training. This class concentrates on honing leash behavior, perfecting off-leash reliability, and polishing positive performance amidst distractions…even at a dog park or shopping centre! In other words, Middle School is an opportunity to practice intensely all that you and your dog have learned up to now…and then some! To this end, we prefer that you register for Middle School after having completed our Primary Elements School program.
PLEASE READ! Dogs must be up to date with all shots, be on a flea and lice preventive program such as Revolution, and have been given Bordetella vaccine by a veterinarian. Records of shots, etc. must be brought to the first Middle School class.

High School (Rounding Out the Adult) |
Your dog is ready for High School if he/she is people-friendly, dog-friendly, and has reached the equivalent level of training as a graduate of Middle School. An older, recently adopted dog may enter the class after receiving some private training with Dogzies. The training in High School is basically a reiteration of the Middle School course with the emphasis on graduating mannerly pets skilled in the social graces. These results are achieved through Rev and Settle Down, Calming the Crazies, Reward Training, Watch, Stay, Walking on a Loose Leash, Heeling, Sit, Down, Stand, and Polite on-leash Greetings exercises.

Finishing School (Refining the Graduate) |
Your dog may enter Finishing School when he/she can concentrate on you almost entirely while in class, and do "sits", "downs" and "comes" without a treat or other lure. This is a detail-oriented class that builds on an already sound foundation of skills. One focus will be on your dog’s unerring, immediate response to your every request. Another will be on your dog’s ability to ignore distractions while under a command from you, even when off-leash. We will practice these skills outdoors in real-life situations. We will also concentrate on hand signals, motion commands, communication with the leash, and even some handsome tricks that your pet will enjoy learning. If your dog doesn’t yet meet the criteria for Finishing School, you are welcome to repeat High School to acquire more practice. Don’t forget… Practice Makes Perfect!
PLEASE READ! Dogs must be up to date with all shots, be on a fleas and lice prevention medication such as Revolution, and have been given Bordetella vaccine by a veterinarian. Records of shots, etc. must be brought to the first class of each School program.

REMEMBER:
Wayne believes that training can be fun for dogs because they take naturally to routine and structure in their lives. In the process they are learning the safety rules that govern their human friends’ lives…
How to cross a street, how to handle traffic, how to properly accompany their owners up and down stairways…in short, they are learning to listen, watch, and obey life-saving commands from the humans they love and trust. Back to Services
